RESELFRIDGES
Overview:
Selfridges aims to have 45% of its transactions come from circular products and services by 2030 through its RESELFRIDGES initiative, which focuses on resale, rental, repair, refill, and recycle. To support this ambitious goal, Selfridges partnered with RÆBURN, a regenerative design studio known for its RÆMADE, RÆDUCED, RÆCYCLED methodology.
Approach:
RÆBURN was commissioned to create a uniform solution for the RESELFRIDGES Retail team. Utilising the agile capabilities of the RÆBURN Lab in Hackney, the team engaged in rapid prototyping and innovative design. The approach involved repurposing existing RÆBURN stock, specifically 100% organic cotton overshirts, and enhancing them with lightweight, high tensile nylon ripstop derived from deconstructed military parachutes.
Services:
Design and Prototyping: Rapid prototyping to develop a functional and aesthetically pleasing uniform.
Material Sourcing: Utilisation of existing stock and repurposed materials, including organic cotton and parachute nylon.
Production: On-site production at the RÆBURN Lab, ensuring high-quality and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Customization: Custom dyeing and finishing processes, including enzyme wash and sand-washed finishes, along with the incorporation of RESELFRIDGES branding.
Conclusion:
The collaboration resulted in a utilitarian, multi-pocket button-front overshirt, blending workwear influences with practical design. The uniforms not only met the visual and functional needs of the RESELFRIDGES team but also embodied the sustainable ethos at the core of both Selfridges and RÆBURN. Christopher Ræburn expressed pride in the project, highlighting the successful integration of RÆBURN Lab’s agility and innovative approach.
